I did just have an msn conversation with Isaac, the 2nd oldest son of the Becerra's. He is a tremendous young man. The last trip the team had to Monte Sion they built such a closeness with Isaac. He speaks very good English and Terry really does feel that sense of brother hood with him.
Isaac said they are all well, and to tell all of you that they are safe and with their *Mexican Family!* That tells you something of how the people see our students and leaders and they genuine love of Christ that they extend.
Isaac was at work today but said he will join the team in Xucalucan tomorrow. Pastor Jaime is with the team there too.
Yesterday they had lunch with Francisco. Last trip they met Francisco's sister who had cancer. She was not a believer and they had a very significant time with her and shared testimonies with her and prayed over her. Isaac told me today that this sister passed away a year ago. He was able to speak words of understanding and comfort to the family - just having had cancer again a year ago. Isaac talks of how significant it is that Terry and the team are there.
He said there is no nationality, no issue of distance, we are the Family of God.
There is a song on our current favourite CD Matthew West called "Something to Say"
here are some of the lyrics.
Wake up, 7:32 AM Can't believe it's time to do it over again
Yesterday, it took all that you had And you're wonderin' if you'll ever get it back
But the whole wide world is waiting for you... Waiting for you to step out that door
Come on and let your life be heard today
You got something to say If you're livin', if you're breathin'
You got something to say And you know if your heart is beatin'
You got something to say
And no one can say it like you do God is love and love speaks through you
You got it, you got it You got something to say
Listen up, I got a question here Would anybody miss you if you disappeared?
Well your life is the song that you sing And the whole wide world is listening
Well the answer to the question is You were created, your life is a gift and
The lights are shining on you today, 'causeYou got something to say
the world is listening now And the lights are shining down
Shining down on you today, 'cause You got something to say
So just say it !
That's our heart for this team - that they (and WE) would come to realize that this life this opportunity is a gift! And our life has something to say...and it speaks in any language any culture - the LOVE of Christ. No one can say it like YOU do!
Prayer Requests:
- bonding for the team. To work closely in the environment they are in it takes a deep sense of teamwork and trust to do the ministry in front of them. Pray that they build deeper relationships, that they demonstrate love and patience to each other.
- The *old and the new* - some of these students and leaders were on the team 2 years ago to Monte Sion. Pray that they can set aside their experiences from last trip for what God has for them THIS trip, and that they are open to it. Pray for the team members for whom this is all new. That they would be able to embrace what is in front of them and trust what God is doing around them and through them.
- culture shock - the team has now been in the country for 2 days...the *newness* is probably wearing off and they are faced with an entirely different culture, an unfamiliar language all around them, different economic settings, different food....it's a big adjustment. And it's normal. Pray that they will have patience through it and not step back but step forward in faith.
- Pray for the church and community at Xucalucan there are 2 more days of VBS there and in the evening I believe the team will be showing the Jesus film in Espanol.
- Pray that these 11 can give themselves fully - and know with confidence that their life has something to say.
